About The Client

The client is an 80-year-old Indian sweets, snacks, and restaurant company. They have a presence in over 60 countries through more than seven million outlets. The company has 50+ manufacturing plants across India and employs over 10,000 employees. In 2017, the company was recognized as the country's largest snack company.

Business Need

The client has a strong presence across different countries and is on its way to strengthening its business further. This meant it had to become more data-driven and empower the leaders with actionable insights to help them make informed and proactive business decisions.

The client has already been using SAP for more than a decade. However, it did not have specific reports to aid its leadership team in making data-driven decisions. The leaders needed more visibility on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in sales, inventory, margin, and finance functions.

To add to the woes, they faced challenges with:

  • Designing the KPIs and logically arranging them on dashboards.
  • Providing the latest insights due to data refresh issues.
  • Building a custom core data service (CDS) view to define data models and support different business processes.

Since Sapours had worked with the client on SAP S/4 HANA implementation, we were given the responsibility to make them data-driven.

The Sapours Way of Making the Company Data-Driven

Based on Sapours deep expertise in data analytics and visualization, the team Sapours implemented a few solutions:

  • Identify and Define Multiple KPIs -
Our team of experts started by studying the client’s different processes, such as sales, inventory, and finance. Based on the deep analysis, the team defined a set of KPIs that matter for the business unit and need to be tracked on a regular basis.
  • Design Analytical Dashboards
Once the team defined the KPIs, they designed several analytical dashboards using Power BI to give the users daily actionable insights. These dashboards included:
    • Sales Dashboard: It provided the sales snapshot on a month-to-date (MTD), quarter-to-date (QTD), and year-to-date (YTD) basis. Additionally, the dashboard showed the sales trends with year-on-year and month-on-month comparisons. The users could also organize products based on quantity and price, allowing them better control over pricing and inventory.
    • Inventory Dashboard: This dashboard gave users a detailed report on product-wise, plant-wise, and batch-wise inventory. It also offered them insights on inventory aging, i.e., the age of the products in stock and product freshness categorized according to plant and product group.
    • Margin and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): This dashboard analyzed top margin earning products and other details like product-wise, plant-wise, and group-wise margins.
    • Finance Dashboards: This dashboard gave users details on Accounts Receivables, Customer advances, Day Sales Outstanding (DSO), cash and bank position, and ratio analysis between current, liquid, and cash.

A team of four process and analytics experts delivered this project in a short span of three calendar months.

Impact

  • Simplified KPI Monitoring
Since implementing the daily dashboards for different processes, the leaders haven’t had to log in to SAP to monitor the KPIs. A daily email with dashboards is delivered automatically to identified recipients.
  • Better UI and Scalability
We designed a good user interface (UI) experience for leaders to view and analyze data efficiently. We also ensured the dashboard could handle and analyze a large volume of data in the future. With these easy-to-use dashboards, even non-technical business users could get detailed insights into data without depending on manual creation of reports.
